Hey Jupiter

In honor of my last unofficial break from the blog day, I leave you with only one question. If your life had a theme song, what would it be? And why?

Okay ... For those of you who want to be technical and point out the obvious ... Yes, I did ask two questions and not just one. (So sue me.)

Anyhoo, tonight is my last unofficial taking a break from the blog day and starting tomorrow things around NWTLO will be very much back to normal which means (drum roll please) daily posting once more ... Even if nothing at all interesting happens.

For now I'm off to bed. A tired Stacey is a cranky Stacey and a cranky Stacey is not someone you want to be around ... Trust me on this. On the scale of one to ten of not pretty, it's off the charts at eleven.

So bring on the theme songs people. You tell me yours and I'll tell you mine.

Kinky, isn't it?

In The End by Linkin Park

Its the words that seem to fit.

I tried so hard and got so far
But in the end,
It doesnt even matter.
I had to fall to lose it all
And in the end
it doesnt event matter...

oooo .. fem artist .. nina simone .. great voice .. and her biography is intense ..

My choice for song (hard choice it is) is "Swimmng in Champagne"
(Words & Music By Eric Heatherly and Richard Carpenter}

Santa Monica sunset decorates the sky
Rose colored twilight reflects in your eyes
As we touch the heavens light up
And we both know we're drowning in love

Chorus:
Feels like I'm swimming in champagne
Dancing in the rain
My mind is spinning in a daze
Feels like I'm riding on a tidal wave
Feels like I'm swimming, in champagne

Floating on a white cloud with you in my arms
I never want to touch down, I want to live in the stars
And I don't wanna wake up if, this is a dream
Cause this love is a rush, when your holdin' me

This song works for me cuz my life is full of love .. and sometimes I feel I will drown in it .. which isn't a bad way to go ..

Well it's past midnight your time, and no post - so no Friday post. ;)

Not to worry, we'll wait, I'm sure.

Not sure if I really have an anthem, too many songs to narrow them down much. At the moment I'd probably choose something by Sandy Denny.

Perhaps "Nothing More"...

My friend I know you've suffered,
Although you are still young.
Why was it you who'd not take help
From anyone?

Oh it's true, it's very true, he said,
Some hard times I have known,
But I have always overcome them
On my own.

Oh the pearls that you hold in your hand
They are beautiful to see,
But you show them not to anyone,
Not even me.

For you are like the others, he said.
I never can be sure
That you wish just to see the pearls
And nothing more.

Why can you not see reason?
Our lives they are not long.
Why can you take no time
To tell us all we're wrong?

My tune it does not change, he said,
And neither does your song,
And words I use them rarely
When I'm all alone.

Or "One More Chance"...

Calling all olive branches and laid-off doves
There is work to do before we say good-bye.
But who can see them turning to the face of love?
Though I hear them pleading with me, "Don't let us die,"
As I sit, I can see their troubled souls wander by,
And I feel them leaning on my shoulder to cry,
"Oh, oh one more chance."

The naked tree of winter seems to stand so proud,
Lording the poor mortal as he goes.
And the tears which well beneath his sombre shroud,
Will they fall with the shame of somebody who knows
He can never be like the thought of a rose
Whose beauty remains even though the bloom goes?
"Oh, oh one more chance."

Oh is it too late to change the way we're bound to go?
Is it too late?
Then surely one of us must know.

Or maybe "Like An Old Fashioned Waltz" - remind me to send this to you, it's truly beautiful to hear.

Roses are red, and violets are blue,
Primroses pale on a velvet green hue,
Warm summer days by cool waterfalls,
Like the music we hear,
Those things we'll always hold dear,
Like an old fashioned waltz.
When the moonlight shines down
On the Hollywood world,
And the heroine waits
For her beau to return,
And violins play
From behind garden walls,
How I'd love to remain
With the silver refrain
Of an old fashioned waltz.

As they dance round the floor,
And there's no-one else there,
And the world is no more
And there's never a care,
By the perfect lagoon
Where the nightingale calls,
With only the moon
And the nostalgic tune
Of an old fashioned waltz.

Roses are red and violets are blue,
Primroses pale on a velvet green hue,
Warm summer days by cool waterfalls,
Like the music we hear,
Those things we'll always hold dear,
Like an old fashioned waltz,
Like an old fashioned waltz,
An old fashioned waltz.

I haven't heard Nina Simone sing that, but I do think I heard Norah Jones do a copy of that song. I quite like the lyrics.

Ken ... May be a bit too glass is half empty for me on the Linkin Park tune. Not that it's not a great song, just a little bit of a downer for a theme song.

Bren ... I guarantee there is life out there. Although come to think of it, not all of it is intelligent.

Ron ... Keep swimming in that champagne. It doesn't get much better than finding your happily ever after here on earth.

Orbling ... I think you are turning me into a Sandy Denny fan. Consider me reminding you to send one or both songs to me.

You know that 'Who Knows Where The Time Goes' song you like? Nina Simone did a very good cover of that if I remember correctly...

Glad you like Denny, she was an angel for sure. :)

I can't imagine one song to be a theme for me..there are so many great songs with so much I can relate to.. Right now. I think it is "Keeper Of The Stars"..

"It was no accident me finding you
Someone had a hand in it long before we ever knew."

yep that one bout says it all right now..

A Pirate Looks at Forty
By: Jimmy Buffet

Mother, mother ocean,
I have heard you call
Wanted to sail upon your waters since I was three feet tall
You've seen it all,
you've seen it all.

Watched the men who rode you switch from sails to steam
And in your belly you hold the treasures few have ever seen
Most of 'em are dreams,
most of 'em dream.

Yes I am a pirate,
two hundred years too late
The cannons don't thunder,
there's nothin' to plunder
I'm an under-forty victim of fate
Arriving too late,
arriving too late.

I've done a bit of smugglin',
I've run my share of grass
I made enough money to buy Miami, but I pissed it away so fast
Never meant to last,
never meant to last.

And I have been drunk now
for over two weeks
I passed out and I rallied and
I sprung a few leaks
But I got stop wishin',
got to go fishin'
Down to rock bottom again
Just a few friends,
just a few friends.

I think there's a little bit of the sailor in us all.

Both in the times we feel all at sea, and the times we want to be.

Check out my profile, you will find both pirates and bonnie lasses listed. Pick your category. I am not much of a Jimmy Buffet fan, I rather prefer the Jack Johnson cover but I give credit to the original writer. And yes, a little sailor in us all! The thirst for adventure and the longing for home....a dichotomy I can call my own. :-)

FAIM ... I did listen to your song on your site ... Meant to leave a message but it was gone before I managed to get back ... Same with the pic you had up for Mother's Day. I wanted to tell you that I thought it was a really lovely tribute.

Tammy ... I'm not a huge country fan but I do like that song. Great lyrics and melody.

Tim ... As far as pirates go, you can ahar matey with the best of them ... Although you are rather peace loving for such a profession ...

On another note, (hah note) both my younger sisters are big Jack Johnson fans (they've even seen him live a couple of times) ... Maybe I should borrow one of their CD's and give it a listen.

Avast, ye filthy landlubbers...and prepare to be boarded!! I am rather peace-loving I know but not to much as to not be able to see the appeal of a Robin Hood type of conquest...were such a thing still possible.

As for the Jack Johnson...if you like folk or indie rock I highly recommend anything except his last album which is far too radio friendly. Two other recommendations are Ben Harper and Amos Lee.

Well, if you get to be a pirate ... I get to be a gypsy.

;)

Unknown said...

Very well....it's a deal! But you have to have a gypsy name. My pirate name is NoBeard...and you would be Madam _________?

I'm thinking Anastasia has a nice ring to it ...
