Consequences of Boredom

I am bored right out of my freaking mind.

I tried reading a book ... But I couldn't lose myself in it. I tried spending time in my garden weeding ... But halfway through playing in the dirt, the fun aspect of it seemed to wear off. I tried watching something on the TV. In fact, one of my favorite movies, The MatchMaker was on ... But I just wasn't in the mood. Then I pulled my flute and some old copies of sheet music from the closet and decided I'd try making some music for a bit and wound up scaring myself near to death with just how out of practice I am.

I've tried everything. Anything. And nothing. And all I am is bored, bored, bored ...

Sad thing is, I thought this weekend was going to be fantastic. No kid for two days, clear weather and nothing in desperate need of cleaning. Just a weekend for myself by myself.

Now I'm wishing KC were home and I could talk to someone other than the cats who've proved not to be very fun company today.

What to do? What to do?

I think I need to get out of the house, but there's no where to go ... Argh and a half on that one!

Anyone for Scrabble?

It's not always great fun being on your own - especially if your mind is filled with longing to be near people. You need some good company, more Bren, and perhaps some backup for when she's busy.

I saw part of an old movie I like today, Father of the Bride - kinda weird, but I think it was well done.

Flutes.... I forgot you played them. Whenever I'm bored or restless, I always grab my recorders (less talented person's flute ;p) and play. I believe I got a good few hours practice in today. Flute is one of, if not my favourite instrument, it excites me just to see one, let alone hear one, or god forbid see one played. We had good tapes of just flute music in the car when I was a kid, lots of holidays spent listening to that. I must hear you play at some point in my life.

[I can't play the flute, it's annoying, can't get to grips with transverse mouthpieces. I've got a little fife that I periodically get out and try to get notes out of it, but can't keep it working. Stupid lips, curse them. :( ]

Trust me when I tell you that I am no James Gallway ... In fact, it's been such a long time since I last even attempted to play my flute, that my fingers don't quite remember anymore how fast they need to move on the keys, let alone how to manage a trill ...

I think I may need to practice much more often than not ... Although this house is about to have another fledgling musician. KC and I have a meeting next week with the school's music department to set KC up with music lessons.

I believe she's going to give the oboe a try ...

YAY. :)

Another instrument I'm heavily in love with. All woodwind really come to think of it, but mainly flutes, oboes, recorders and the various pipes.

The oboe is a rare instrument these days, so it'll be delightful if she starts to play it. Is she really interested, or is it going to be a chore?

As for you, I'm sure you play beautifully - if the notes come out anywhere approaching smooth it sounds good. I tend to like listening to Jethro Tull for a flute fix, as flutes are too often reserved just for classic music or folk if you're lucky. It's good enough to use in all music forms, well most.

Might have to put on some Gallway...

If weather permits, take a walk off the beaten path (take ayour camera) and just breathe and observe; I guarantee the natural world is not boring.
Or try doing someting nice for someone for absolutely no reason and with no expectations...it can even be someone you don't even know.
On the chatty side - how's the new table and chairs? Are they surviving your "cute" cat? What's the health news on your dad's wife?
Talked with my dad yesterday - the trip we are taking only has us in Greece for ONE day, but one day is far better than 0 days, and here's the rub, daughter of mine - we start out from Barcelona, Spain - our first port is Villafranche, France, then on to Livorno, Italy (Florence/Pisa), Naples, 2 days in Venice, then off to Coratia and Greece than back to Rome and then a return to Barcelona. Are you green yet?
You will notice the land of my heritage is not on the itinerary so tell Orbling, that's next on my list...we will all raise a glass in his favorite pub.

Tell your neighbors that the Weekend Warrior will be arriving later on today.

A spa day seems just the thing ... But now that the weekend is over, I'll have to save that for another boredom filled day.

As for Scrabble, I haven't played that in years. Probably something I would have to work on before challenging any of the mass public.

Mom, I'm turning an emerald shade of green over your trip itinerary. Any chance of hiding me away in your luggage?

I agree with YM, take a walk on the wild side, with or without a camera - nature heals.

Let me bring you songs from the wood:
to make you feel much better than you could know.
Dust you down from tip to toe.
Show you how the garden grows.
Hold you steady as you go.
Join the chorus if you can:
it'll make of you an honest man.

Let me bring you love from the field:
poppies red and roses filled with summer rain.
To heal the wound and still the pain,
that threatens again and again,
as you drag down every lover's lane.

Bren - 9 years? :D I'll have to here you play as well sometime. I think everyone should play something.

Where did that pretty verse come from?

Argh, I'm doing it again, must quote properly.

Songs From The Wood - Jethro Tull

[Excellent song, from an excellent album of the same name.]

Never really got into Jethro Tull though I've been told many times that the flute in their music rocks out ...

I'll see if I can rustle some up for you. :)
