Waiting For the Storm

It's the still before the storm.

Outside no wind, no movement on any kind. Just the sound of thunder rumbling in the distance as azure blue skies darken to black. Inside the television cries its warnings in high pitched staccato beeps, as a line of red lettering flashes across the bottom of the screen, advising those in the path of the storm to seek shelter immediately.

Depressed KC lounges on the couch, kicking off her shoes no longer on her way outside to play. And with the windows shut, at least most of the way but not quite all, we simply wait. Wait for the weather to do what it will, good or bad.

Outside the trees begin to rustle in the wind, the top of their branches swaying back and forth like drunken sailors on leave. I watch for a moment, slightly unconcerned as the thunder draws closer, enjoying the feeling of the storm. A tumultuous energy, unbridled and fierce, the essence of strength, combined with the power of destruction.

And now would be a good time for me to go, before this weather gets much worse. It wouldn't do to fool around with Mother Nature, especially considering my laptop is still brand new.
